Tommy Robinson’s appearance at Oxford Union postponed

Tommy Robinson’s appearance at Oxford Union will be postponed due to criticism from religious leaders.

Following criticism from religious leaders, including Oxford Bishop Dr. Steven Croft, the Oxford Union (OU) has postponed far-right activist Tommy Robinson’s scheduled appearance this week until later in the term.

Dr. Croft and Imam Monawar Hussain, an imam at Eton College and the founder of the Oxford Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to fostering racial and religious harmony

A called on the society to revoke its invitation last week, stating that they were “disturbed and saddened” by the planned discussion.

The OU did not answer questions from the media this week, but on Saturday it posted on Instagram that it was postponing the debate on the motion

“This house believes the West is right to be suspicious of Islam” in order to “allow time for planning of the event.”.

In a joint letter, Dr. Croft and Mr. Hussain, co-chairs of the Oxfordshire and Thames Valley Faith and Civic Leaders Forums, stated: “This invitation comes at a time of rising tensions between communities.”.
