In a prayer for unity in the United Kingdom, bishops in the Church of England ask God to keep them safe from “the perils of division and hatred”.
‘The prayer was released by the recently formed Bishops’ Working Group for Promoting Unity in our Nation shortly before Tommy Robinson, a prominent far-right leader, organized a significant rally in London over the weekend.
‘It expresses gratitude to everyone who helps “build up our common life.”. “We know that these are anxious and fearful times for many in our country, which makes the Church’s calling for peace and reconciliation all the more pressing,” stated Bishop Martyn Snow, the working group’s leader.
I think we have a lot to be thankful for as a nation, a lot to be proud of, and a lot to look forward to if we respect one another, learn from each other, and cooperate for our common future.
Robinson’s march was attended by about 60,000 people concurrently with a pro-Palestine march. Both marches “proceeded largely without significant incident” with only a few dozen arrests, according to a Metropolitan Police spokesperson.
‘Some marchers chanted “Christ is king” while holding wooden crosses. According to a recent snap poll by Premier Christian News, about 25% of UK Christians identify as nationalists or are sympathetic to nationalist ideas, so Christians were anticipated to be among the crowds.
”In his speech at the rally, Robinson expressed concern about the situation of persecuted Nigerian Christians and urged his followers to become involved in politics, saying, “Are you ready for the battle of Britain? 2029 we have an election.”. Nobody is being asked to go out.
